Cornflake Cookies

Don't let the name scare you!  These cookies are delicious! They are crisp on the outside, and chewy on the inside, and addicting inside and out! I love chocolate chip cookies, but sometimes it's nice to have something different.  The dough is tasty too, so beware!  Here is the link:Cornflake Cookies

A Sunday Skirt

 One time I found this great muumuu/nightgown thing at DI. I was attracted to the print and lightness of the fabric, so I bought it in hopes of making something(s) out of it one day.
Two months later, I actually did it! Here's the process..



 I pretty much just cut the thing in half where it would be the length I wanted it



Then I did a running stitch along the top and gathered it.


 I gathered until it was the same length as a piece of elastic the length of my waist and pinned the elastic on.


I sewed the elastic on using a zigzag stitch,  pulled out the running stitch and ....

Tada!

 No hemming, because I used the hemline of the original dress. Hooray for laziness!


And today's ANTM shot for the full effect. 


I love it! Anddd, I could still make something out of the top!

Wedding Cake & Toppers

EmmaLee made this for my wedding (I wish I could claim that this cake was my creation!):


I just love it! I almost wish it was fake so I could keep it on display. Hopefully she will post a link to the tutorial she used. She made it all from scratch and flavored the frosting with pistachio flavoring...it was delish!



I made the little toppers out of wooden clothespins from Hobby Lobby. Really simple- paint, hot glue, fabric...you get the idea.

3 Cheese Tomato Basil Pizza

YUM! This was the easiest thing I've ever made, and one of the most delicious. I made it up, so I don't have exact amounts. You can't really mess it up.

Ingredients:

Refrigerated pizza crust

Olive Oil

Shredded Parmesan cheese

Sliced provolone cheese

Mozzarella cheese

3 Roma tomatoes, sliced thin

Fresh basil, chopped

Salt

Pepper


Directions:

After rolling dough into pizza pan, spread olive oil onto crust and bake 400 degrees for 5 min. Remove pizza from oven and sprinkle with shredded Parmesan cheese, then layer provolone on top. Sprinkle on mozzarella cheese then top with sliced tomatoes, and fresh chopped basil. Top with salt and pepper, and bake an additional 10min at 400 degrees.

Knit Skirt





Ok, well I will break the awkward silence.
So I'm not really a swim shorts type of person, but when I go to the beach, I like to have a comfy skirt or dress to pull over my swimsuit when I'm not swimming. Nobody likes there thighs hanging out all day, right? So I found this really soft stretchy fabric at SAS and knew I could make something out of it.
I ended up just making a little skirt and it was SO easy. Stretchy= NO zipper NO elastic NO hemming!!!

There's no need for a pattern, because it's all relative to the size of your waist or hips (wherever you want the waistband to sit). This is basically what you will cut out:

To measure your waist/hips, just take a strip of the fabric you will use and pull it around you until it feels comfortable. You don't want it too loose or too tight. Obviously.
You can also change the width of the band, but mine was about 9" (you will fold this length in half). ok, ok, directions:

1. Make your measurements, do the math, cut out your pieces

2. Do a running stitch along the top of the bigger rectangle and gather

3. Fold the waistband piece in half hot dog style (making it skinnier)

4. Pin the band to the skirt like this:


Band upside-down, raw edges all at the top

5. Sew the raw edges together using a zigzag or stretch stitch. Using a normal stitch= bad news!

6. Rip out the running stitch (the one you used to gather the skirt)

7. Fold the skirt in half, right sides together, and sew up that open side-- you can use a straight stitch now.

You're done!


This skirt is great, because you can make it as long/short as you want and use it for little girls or yourself.

side note: Most knits are much stretchier one way. Make sure the waistband is going around your waist the stretchy way, so you can pull it on and off.
